Early mornings at the golf course are a great way to start any summer day & here in Charlottesville, we have so many great golf courses to choose from!
We're sharing our list (okay, Rives's list) of favorite places to play a round. Whether you prefer to tee off in the early morning or late afternoon, you're sure to enjoy some of these great public courses.
1. Birdwood Golf Course at Boar's Head Resort

Birdwood is home to multiple courses including 18 championship holes, a 6-hole par-3 course touted as "golf in under an hour", and a putting course with 18 holes behind the clubhouse. It is also the home to the UVA Men's & Women's golf teams. 
2. Lake Monticello Golf Club at Lake Monticello 
51 Bunker Blvd Palmyra
Located in Fluvanna County, the Lake Monticello Golf Club is open to the public for games and as a membership for frequent golfers. There are a number of golf leagues available to join as well. The Lake Monticello course includes an 18 hole course and a driving range.
3. Meadowcreek Golf Course at Pen Park 
1400 Pen Park Rd Charlottesville
Meadowcreek Golf Course is an 18-hole course in Charlottesville's Pen Park and was named Best Golf Course in Charlottesville in 2025. The course includes a driving range and you can sign up for a variety of lessons and leagues through the city. 
4. Old Trail Golf Club at Old Trail 
5494 Golf Drive Crozet
Old Trail Golf Club features an 18-hole championship golf course, practice facilities, and a full service clubhouse. You can also check out Old Trail's Swing Lab to help perfect your techniques with personalized training sessions. 
5. Stoney Creek Golf Course at Wintergreen Resort
Route 664 Nellysford
Located in the Rockfish River valley, the Stoney Creek Golf Course offers 3 9-hole courses, a driving range, and Clubhouse with restaurant. Set against the Blue Ridge Mountains, you'll find surprising elevation changes throughout the course.
