Preparing for a new pet is exciting, but it can also be overwhelming! From curious kittens & mischievous pups, furry friends have a way of getting into all the places that you don't want them to go. But with a little prep work, you can make sure your home is a safe & welcoming space for your new animal friend. 

Here are a few things to think about before bringing a new pet home: 

  1. Secure Hazards
    Like with young children, make sure your cleaning products and chemicals are securely closed and your pets cannot get into them. If your new critter seems especially curious, consider child-proof locks on your cabinets. 

    Trash cans are another big temptation for pets. Choose bins with secure lids and make sure you know what foods can be harmful to your pets so they don't snag any fallen scraps.

If your goal for 2025 is to stop renting & buy your own home, you've probably found yourself wondering when to start your home search so you aren't stuck paying rent & a mortgage at the same time.

And the classic answer to this question is exactly what you might expect: it depends.

As a very basic guideline, we recommend that you start your search 4 to 6 months before your lease ends or 2 to 3 months before you need to renew your lease. This should take some pressure off you and make the process a little less stressful.
